What is Massage Therapy?
Massage therapy is a hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, specifically the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints.
Massage therapy treatment has a therapeutic effect on the body and improves your health and well-being. This is achieved by acting on your muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. Physical function can be developed, maintained or improved; and physical dysfunction and pain and the effects of stress can be relieved or prevented through the use of Massage Therapy.
What is Cupping?
Cupping is an alternative therapy that is widely recognized in the world of sports with athletes and trainers. It creates suction that helps promote blood flow, releases tension, increases joints range of motion, responds well to chronic inflammation and breaks up adhesions and scar tissue. It has wide effects that involves the digestive system, respiratory system and nervous system.
Cups can be applied anywhere from 10 seconds to 30 minutes, using different levels of suction and cup sizes according to the client’s comfort level and treatment plan. Conditions that can be helped with the use of cups:

Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect during my first massage therapy treatment?
On your first visit, Julia will ask you to complete a health history form. She will then propose a treatment plan based on your health history, assessment findings and your treatment goal. The assessment consists of various tests to determine the condition of your muscles and joints.
Do I need to undress for my appointment?
Julia will explain that it is important to undress to your comfort level so you feel comfortable throughout the treatment. Massage therapists are required to cover/drape with a sheet & blanket so that only the area they are working on, will be uncovered. Your privacy will always be respected, and the client may withdraw consent and stop treatment at any time.
Is massage therapy covered under benefits?
Several insurance companies cover treatment for Massage Therapy as part of their extended healthcare plan. Please consult your policy. Julia provides insurance receipt with each treatment. She provides direct billing with Green Shield Canada.
What forms of payment is accepted?
Julia accepts cash, cheque, e-transfer and debit. All e-transfers can be made out to juliaburkermt@gmail.com.
Cancellation Policy
A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel appointments. Any cancelled appointments with less than 24 hours’ notice or any missed/no-show appointments will result in full billing of the missed treatment. In cases of severe weather or illness, please try to give as much notice as possible, as the policy will still apply.
